“If I start seeing a chiropractor, won’t I have to see one for the rest of my life?” This is a question I often hear in my profession. Unfortunately, many prospective patients are mistakenly told that it’s a life sentence — but it goes a little deeper than that.
Here’s my answer: Anything in life that requires maintenance to keep in operating condition is something you will want to continue doing for the rest of your life.
Like our teeth and our cars, our spinal health needs occasional check-ups. Our spines endure major stress throughout our lives, yet we continue to run on low-grade fuel, avoid fine-tuning alignment, and we still expect to function in tip-top shape for a lifetime.
When we push a visit out too far, we run the risk of breaking down on the side of the road or needing a root canal. It’s important to understand why chiropractors, dentists, and mechanics all recommend coming back!
We’ve all been the patient or client at some point, avoiding a check-up whether for monetary reasons, inconvenience, or fear of something actually being wrong. However, the professionals in these industries know that maintaining optimal health of our teeth, cars, and spines is always much easier than the potential consequences of putting off a visit.
When we "break down on the side of the road" in terms of our bodies, the result is usually pain. For most, this can be debilitating low back pain that prevents us from continuing the tasks of our daily lives. It can mean taking off of work and losing a source of income or even missing out on major life events.
What This Means For You
Balance is key! Finding the sweet spot between being seen regularly and breaking the bank doesn’t have to be impossible.
Our clinic specializes in creating care plans that focus on initially getting patients out of pain so they can return to functioning in their everyday lives. Next, we move on to actively addressing the cause(s) of pain with exercises that consist of strengthening weak muscles and stretching chronically spasmed muscles. Finally, we move into our supportive care plan that includes as-needed scheduling.
Chiropractic care takes many forms. Preventive treatment, pain relief, and general maintenance are all reasons to keep visiting your chiropractor — for a lifetime!
